AMRAT
This information was
for the 2003 Mobile Bay effort. It is presently available for
anyone interested in planning an assessment.
Logistical Information
Arrival
For those of you staying at Dauphin Island Sea Lab, check-in on Monday,
September 1 will be between 3:00PM and 6:00PM.
If you are arriving Tuesday, September 2, go to the classrooms
and a team member will be available to help you.
Check-In
Everyone participating in the Rapid Assessment needs to check-in.
This includes daily visitors, observers, media personnel,
analyzers, - everyone. At a
minimum this will allow you access to the cafeteria for free meals.
Housing
If you are staying at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, housing will be
provided free of charge. It
is, however, somewhat of a communal lifestyle.
Due to the number of team members, bunking for most of us will be
in the dorms. We hope all
are too exhausted by the end of the day to care and will enjoy the
camaraderie for the week. You
need to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, towel, and other personal items.
If you are making your own accommodations, please let us know
immediately.
If you choose not to
stay at the Sea Lab, motels on the island are available.
These reservations must be made by you and at your own expense.
Also note, motels in Tillman’s corner, Mobile, or other
locations will involve a very long travel time to the island.

Meals
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are being provided by the Mobile Bay
National Estuary Program. Meals will be served at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab cafeteria.
Should you choose to eat at one of the island establishments,
this will be at your own expense. If
you have a dietary concern, please notify us as soon as possible as team
members in the field will be carrying pre-made sack lunches.
You may want to bring your own water bottle.
Equipment
Team leaders are coordinating boats, people, and equipment.
However, if there are any special tools, materials, or personal
gear you require for your specialty, you will need to bring them.
Things like taxonomic guides and literature you will need to
bring. Items such as
sampling containers, pens, and coolers will be provided.
If you have any questions concerning equipment contact your team
leader.
Weather
As you know, coastal Alabama has had an extremely rainy year and we are
in hurricane season. Be prepared for all weather possibilities (including personal
gear). Your team leader and
boat captain may need to make last minute changes in your field
schedule.
Schedule
Some teams may not spend all three days in the field. Some team members may shift between crews.
The following is a brief schedule to acquaint you with how the
week will proceed. Some
things maybe further refined over the next two weeks.
