Mini Grants have been awarded to implement innovative ideas for education and resource management and to promote a greater awareness and understanding of the five environmental issues of concern for the Mobile Bay and Delta. Both research and education/outreach related projects have been granted.  No grants were awarded in 2005.  The program is being revised and should have new direction reflecting the strategic planning process of the program.  To see previous awards click on the button above.  The five areas of concern identified by citizens and stakeholders within the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan are:

Water Quality

·         Nutrient and/or organic overloading

·         Pathogens

·         Toxic chemicals

·         Acceleration of erosion and sedimentation

·         Groundwater  

               

Habitat Loss

·         Vegetated bottoms

·         Wetlands

·         Land use practices and fragmentation of natural habitats

·         Protection and preservation of unique habitats

 

Living Resources

·         Species of concern

·         Introduced species

·         Maintenance of commercial and recreational fisheries

 

Human Uses

·         Sustainable land use planning

·         Hydrologic modifications

·         Public Access to water resources

 

Education and Public Involvement

·         Increase local, state, and federal government understanding and participation in natural resources conservation leadership

·         Increase public awareness and stewardship of the natural resources of the Mobile Bay NEP area
