Bio
The mission of the Mobile Bay National Estuary Program (MBNEP) is to maintain and promote wise stewardship of the water quality and living resources of the Mobile Bay and Delta through implementation of a Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan. As Director, Yeager is responsible for the continuing leadership and administration of one of the twenty-eight national estuary programs. He reports to a Policy Committee, appointed by the Governor. The MBNEP is a multi-million dollar, multi-year effort and is a partnership between local citizens, private and corporate stakeholders, the state of Alabama and the federal government. Prior to accepting the MBNEP position, Yeager served a 29 -year career as a member of the nation’s smallest uniformed service, the NOAA Commissioned Corps; a career that combined science and national service. He retired as a Captain. Yeager served on six agency ships and was Commanding Officer of three. He led mapping and charting surveys and oceanographic research expeditions throughout many areas of the world. Captain Yeager is involved in numerous local, state and regional committees. He has been awarded honors by the U.S. Department of Commerce, NASA and others. He is an Alabama native receiving his BS in Geology from Auburn University and was awarded an MS in Oceanography from the US Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California. He is married to the former Sarah McEwen and they live in Daphne, Alabama.
