The goal of the Mobile Bay NEP is to develop a Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) for Mobile Bay. This plan is tailored to meet the specific problems and needs of our estuary while meeting the requirements of the national program.

The NEP process builds upon existing programs that are already working on coastal issues and water quality concerns in our area. An interactive and collaborative decision-making process in which stakeholders work together to develop and implement the CCMP is used. All stakeholders participate as equal partners. No single entity runs the Mobile Bay NEP, the decisions are made collectively by the Management Conference.

Our local NEP has representatives from government agencies, citizens, business leaders, environmental groups, educators, and scientists. The contribution of time, effort, and expertise made by most of these representatives is as a volunteer.  The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) helps us by providing grants and technical assistance. The grant money helps to fund some of the work that is necessary to the restoration of Mobile Bay.

The most critical part of this process is building and sustaining LONG-TERM public support to carry out the necessary actions agreed upon in the CCMP. Everyone is a stakeholder. Everyone benefits, in some way, from Mobile Bay. To find out how you can become a volunteer, please call the Mobile Bay NEP office 251/431-6409 or email us.
