Learning about the environment can be fun. There are some really cool sites on the Internet and using them to learn can be an adventure - just spend some time checking out some of the sites linked below. The more you know about ecology and science, the easier it is to make correct decisions to help protect the earth and the creatures that live here (including you and me). Hopefully, you will begin to understand the importance of Mobile Bay and the reasons we need everyone's help to protect it. There's also lots of stuff that might be helpful with school assignments, especially down here on the coast. Have fun learning!
Estuary Live! Take an electronic field trip and learn about National Estuarine Research Reserves or National Estuaries. Outstanding coverage of a broad range of issues on the animals, plants, waters, habitats, and conditions where the rivers meet the sea.
Field Trips for Kids - Learn about oceans, salt marshes, hurricanes, and other neat places and things in our environment.
Kids Do Ecology - Learn about sharks, whales, and lots of other interesting topics related to living things and our environment. There are activities to do and if you have a question, you can even ask an Ecologist!
U.S. EPA's Explorers' Club - There is a lot to learn and do on these pages, stop by the Club House and check it out!
National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Kids' Page - There is so much stuff to do, you will never get through this site in one day!
Nonpoint Source Kids Page - Puzzles, games and a story plus, meet Darby Duck and the Aquatic Crusaders, and learn something about pollution that starts very close to home!
USGS Learning Web - There is learning for every age group at this site, whether you're the student OR the teacher. Pick your subject - Biology, Geology, Hydrology, and Geography - this is a site that has a wealth of resources. Check it out!
Nature-Puzzles & Fun - This site provides some great adventures (and learning opportunities). You may need to download some plug-ins (you can get them free on the site) and maybe Mom's or Dad's help, but it's worth the effort.
Water Science for Schools - A great site all - about water - from the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS).
The Many Adventures of Drippy the Raindrop - A story for young children about the water (hydrologic) cycle.
Hurricane: Storm Science - This site will tell you about these storms we see from time to time on the Gulf Coast.
Kids F.A.C.E. - Kids For A Clean Environment is a club you can join which is all about environmental responsibility and action by kids. It's come a long way since 1989 when Melissa Poe wrote "the letter" to then President George H. W. Bush, and today there are over 300,000 members worldwide!
