The Mobile Bay National Estuary Program (Mobile
Bay NEP) is hosting a public meeting concerning “no trawl” areas in the
northern portion of Mobile Bay and Grand Bay in Mississippi
Sound. Over the past two months, input has been gathered from
representatives of the commercial fishing industry, conservation
organizations, and others concerned with this issue.
The purpose of this meeting is to ensure that we collect information from
those that may not have had the opportunity for prior comment or
representation. The comments will be collected for future review as the
Mobile Bay NEP continues in efforts to facilitate development of a
community position on this subject or develop new recommendations to include
in its Conservation and Management Plans.
Conservation groups requested that the organization act as a facilitator on
the subject of establishing areas in northern Mobile Bay and Grand Bay where
trawling would be restricted year round.
This meeting will be held Wednesday, May 19, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the
Las Brisas Hotel and Conference Center on the Causeway. Public comment will
be limited to 3 minutes per person and recorded. Comment will be closed at
8:30 PM. Persons desiring to speak will be
requested to sign-up before the meeting.
