New EPA Region 4 Administrator Named

Message from the Administrator

Dear Colleagues,

I’m thrilled to announce Heather McTeer Toney as Regional Administrator for EPA’s Region 4 Office based in Atlanta. Heather will follow Acting Regional Administrator Stan Meiburg, who has done an exemplary job filling in after Gwen Keyes Fleming moved to Washington to serve as my Chief of Staff. We are all thankful for Stan’s hard work and dedication.
As a former Mayor of Greenville, Mississippi, university leader, and lawyer, Heather’s public service and roots in the region will bolster her effectiveness as she works with local officials, businesses, and families throughout the Southeast to carry out EPA’s mission of protecting public health and the environment.
Throughout her career, she has managed city budgets, helped rebuild neighborhoods in the wake of hurricanes, floods, and other natural disasters, and kept an ear to the ground to best work with the communities she serves. EPA is familiar territory for Heather, who in 2009 was nominated by then-EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson to serve as Chairwoman of the Local Government Advisory Committee in Region 4, where she worked to improve local air and water quality. Heather currently serves as the Executive Director of the Center for Excellence in Student Learning at Mississippi Valley State University, among her many community service roles that have helped expand opportunities for countless young people and women especially.
Heather is an enthusiastic advocate and a dedicated public servant. I have full confidence that she’ll continue that sense of service and leadership as Region 4 Administrator in the region she was born, raised, and still calls home.
Please join me in congratulating Heather, and welcoming her to the EPA family.
Sincerely,

Gina McCarthy
EPA Administrator
