Alabama Law Enforcement Agencies (ALEA) Marine Patrol District Commander Lt. Ryan Bennett accepted the request of the Western Perdido Watershed Management Plan’s Steering Committee to speak about wake zones. Lt. Bennett advised of the difficulty that each of the four troopers assigned to Baldwin County, considering 120,000 state boat registrants. He advised that the state is developing standards for when idle zones are justified. Steering Committee ideas to decrease wake zones include supporting additional enforcement resources, leveraging outreach opportunities with ALEA, pursuing non-regulatory informational signage, and citizen input regarding idle zone justification standards.
