Shemika is the Community Engagement Program Lead for the Mobile Bay National Estuary Program. She is responsible for building and supporting the Community Action Committee, engaging diverse communities, providing program development, educating audiences about issues affecting the Alabama coast and activities being undertaken to mitigate stress on coastal resources.

She is a 2001 graduate of Alabama State University with a BA in Political Science, and a 2005 graduate of Auburn University Montgomery with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. Prior to joining the MBNEP, Shemika served as a Program Coordinator for a national biomedical research program with the Center for Healthy Communities at the University of South Alabama.

A native of Anniston, Shemika is a community advocate working on various committees with her sorority Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated on issues like voting rights, as well as physical and mental health. She enjoys cooking, working out, gardening, and music.
